Regional Clinical Officer - Kisumu

This position will support NASCOP and its implementing partners to establish, mentor, train and monitor key populations friendly comprehensive clinics in Kenya. The person will also work with the key populations programs in ensuring that effective referral linkages are established and data generated is gathered routinely and fed into the NASCOP data reports. In addition, the person will support establishment of other innovative clinical health delivery mechanisms for key populations.  

Designation: Regional Clinical Officer: Key Populations (# of Positions: 1)

Reporting to: Senior Regional M&E Officer  

Duration: 1 year (6 months’ probation)

Location: Kisumu

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide technical support to the key populations implementing partners in establishing key population friendly clinics.

2. Support partner’s in planning for scaled up clinical services delivery through appropriate mixed model approaches

3. Develop standard operating procedures for key populations clinics.

4. Support and develop referral mechanisms for treatment of STIs through other clinical mechanisms.

5. Support partners to establish mechanisms for uptake of other biomedical services like HIV testing, PrEP, PEP, linkages to care, ART uptake, viral load testing and other newer treatment initiative like test and treat models.

6. Support the partners in ensuring that the clinical data is captured and reported back to NASCOP.

7. Handhold and mentor clinical staff (Clinical officers, nurses, lab technicians etc.) on delivering key populations clinical services to KPs.

8. Undertake routine capacity building of the clinical staff on guidelines, manuals and SOPs to ensure efficient and effective clinical services for KPs.

9. Undertake routine data analysis with support from program M&E teams to improve clinical programs service delivery.

10. Provide routine feedback to the key populations program on clinical health care delivery.

11. Promote inter-partners learning on common good practices.

12. Perform any other relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time. 

Required experience and qualifications
  • Three years of experience as clinical officer in HIV prevention programs or other relevant programs is essential, of which at least two years must include experience working as clinical officer within NGOs working with key populations programs.
  • Independently led clinical operations as a clinical officer for key populations in a program for at least one year.
  • Experience in training, coaching and mentoring on clinical programs is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Kenya’s HIV epidemic and the status of HIV programs among key populations is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a team member.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel for field-related activities.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication. 


· Diploma in Clinical Medicine/Surgery and registered by the clinical officer’s council is essential. Other additional trainings / certifications related to STI and HIV and good clinical practices is desirable.
