Enhancing the impact of HIV Prevention in Kenya.

This project is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) through the University of Manitoba. It’s a collaborative project with the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) and National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP), Ministry of Health, Government of Kenya.

The goal of the project is to contribute to a reduction in HIV prevalence and incidence in Kenya by improving scale, quality and impact of HIV prevention programmes among key populations who include Sex Workers, Men who have Sex with Men and People who Inject Drugs. This is being done by through a national Technical Support Unit (TSU) within NASCOP to develop technical strategies and guidelines, build capacity and provide implementation support for the scaling up of HIV prevention programs for key populations. In addition, the project has established model programs for HIV prevention among sex workers in Nairobi and Mombasa. NASCOP uses these programs as learning sites to provide hands-on learning opportunities for implementing partners to efficiently deliver more comprehensive and effective HIV prevention for SWs in Kenya. In addition the project also supports National AIDS Control Council (NACC) to develop key population policies and a performance framework for key population programming.
